Sunday was world kindness day and we took some time on Monday to talk about kindness. I asked the class "what does kindness mean?" We came up with this definition... Kindness: to be kind, be nice, gentle hands.

We read "I walk with Vanessa" by .The book is wordless, allowing us to have an open discussion throughout the illustrations about what we saw happening and how we thought characters in the story felt. In the book Vanessa was bullied on her first day at school, several children saw what happened. But one little girl worried about it all that night and decided to take action by herself.

After reading the story I asked each "how can you be kind to someone else?" our responses...

Claire - Share toys Maeve - Share toys

Ruby - Give hugs Kullyn - Sharing toys

This week we continued our study of cooking. We've enjoyed books related to the topic like Cloudy with a chance of meatballs, and Strega Nona!

There is one important step when our little chefs are cooking in the kitchen, hand washing! This week, thanks to a lower school parent, we got our hands on glow germ gel, this gel acts as germs by lighting up white under a black light. We tried out this experiment by putting some gel on our hands and rubbing it in. We took a look under the black light and saw how white our hands lit up under the black light. I followed up with a proper lesson on hand washing (washing the palms, tops of hands, between fingers and wrists) and then sent each child to the sink to wash their hands. The cool thing is he glow gel is invisible, like germs, under regular light. When each student came back we were able to see if they missed any steps in their hand washing routine! Hannah and I helped each student through the hand washing routine the second time around, really making sure our hands are washed properly, and taking another look under the black light to see clean hands that didn't light up!

We decorated our donation box for our Kids Can Build can donation for special friends day!

This week we also celebrated four birthdays! Grayson and Wells turned 4 on Tuesday. Finn turned 4 on Friday and Leon will turn 4 on Monday!

On friday we also went to our second assembly of the year, hosted by the 8th grade and spent time with our buddies! Our buddies came into our room and read some of our favorite stories to us. This is our second buddy time, children do not have assigned buddies yet.
