We're all together!

Its hard to believe this is our first week! We are off to a great start! A major focus in the beginning of the year are the routines in our classroom. It is no doubt that transitions are hard for young children, and leaving space for the unknown can cause some anxiety. The goal for us teachers, is to follow these very basic routines so children can learn what to expect next. This year our class has been quick to pick up on our playground time! We have also enjoyed a few short hikes!

We have spent some time making the classroom feel like our home away from home. Our birthday pictures are up. We have a special birthday celebration in our classroom (more on that at a later date!) As well we read Our class is a Family by Shannon Olsen. After reading we made our own classroom promise. These promises were thought up by the class as a whole!

This week has been inspired by International dot day! On Friday we celebrated international dot day, made widely popular by the book "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds. In the book, the main character does not see herself as an artist, but through the story she finds she can create many beautiful pieces of art by believing in herself, which in the end inspires others. This week you may have noticed the dot theme come home in your Childs art. During the morning we created "dot" mono-prints. We used tempura paints, and a gel press. We grouped our colors by warm and cool tones. Throughout the year we will explore the different groupings of colors, as well as using different art medias. This first project was a great example of the use of art medias that many adult artists use to create art! We kept some pieces of our dot art to display in the classroom for out "dot museum!" We showcased these pieces and invited the other preschool classes into our room for a gallery walk.

On Friday we also had a special delivery! Well talk more about what arrived in the next coming weeks but if your child attended school on Friday feel free to ask them what they think (or know) arrived!

Questions you can ask your children this weekend:

  • Did you use warm or cool colors to paint your dot?

  • Do you know what arrived at school on Friday?
