There has been a lot happening these last few weeks of school. This time of the year always feels so busy and with things happening outside the classroom (like parent-teacher conferences) the days seem to fly by. This month will bring some other exciting days, including special friends day on the 22nd!
Our Monarch study has come to an end with the release of the last of our butterflies! The classroom has been busy with play, and especially cooking related play. In the last few weeks the children have engrossed themselves in cooking in the sandbox, outdoor play kitchen and in our classroom. We made applesauce, popcorn, and pumpkin bread, along with gardening for "creepy carrots" food has been a central focus of our play!
We've started a study on food and culture, and this week started by examining our own families. I posed the question "What special foods do you make with your family?" and many of the children responded with "Pizza!" We also read "Fry Bread" which talks about making a Native American bread called fry bread. At the end of the book there is a recipe for fry bread and we talked about the components of a recipe; having an ingredients lists and the directions.
We set to work creating our list of ingredients for pizza, and we needed no help with this. Through our classroom discussion the children identified all the ingredients we needed!
On Thursday we read Wold Pizza and made our pizza!
We also joined the Hemlock class at their Rainbow Party on Tuesday! We had a blast playing in their classroom, enjoying some "rainbow cupcakes" (mini muffins with rainbow sprinkles) and rainbow salad (fruit salad!)
This month so far we have celebrated Kullyns's Birthday! Happy Birthday Kullyn!
We've spent our days getting outside in the unusually warm weather! And as always enjoying our time to play! I know some families already follow along but I do try to post on our classroom instagram! You can follow along with other happenings of our day at @ParkerOAKclass
