The main project we are working on this week, we will have to keep under wraps until our winter break. This project will culminate our food and cooking study, and we are excited to gift this secret to our families for the holidays! But for now I hope to share some other aspects of our week!
We spent the later part of the week investigating lights and shadows. Children entered a dim room each morning, lit by elements such as an overhead projector, light table, strings of lights, and table top lamps. Children explored how the light reflects,or doesn’t, materials are transparent, and how colors change through color mixing of our window blocks and magnet tiles.
Our week has also had a central focus of winter cheer! Maybe it’ll snow soon! Either way we’ve started to enjoy some winter theme books, decorating our room and made our own “snow” in the sensory bin!
As we prepared for winter inside our class, we also prepared our outdoor spaces for winter as well. We read Sleep Tight Farm, by Eugene Doyle. After reading about how a family prepares their own homestead for winter, we got outside to care for our space. Taking care of our garden, we removed fallen sticks that were used to hold up vegetables, we scooped up leaves to place in the beds for winter compost, and brought extra materials over to the shed to store for the winter. Our class will be ready for winter, whenever it decides to make its grand entrance!
Our buddies visited us on Friday for a special art project! We collaged on snowflakes to take home :)
Until next
