To culminate our unit of cooking and food, and as a gift to our families, we have made our own bees wax wraps!

The last few weeks have been labor intensive as each child made their wraps. We started by watching a video about what bees wax wraps are and reviewing the materials and directions to make them. We produced one through a whole group demo. Children helped me cut the fabric down, using a rotary cutter. Then as the days went on children (with the help of an adult) followed the steps to make their own! Each child picked their own fabric square of their choice! We hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed making them!

This last week we’ve also spent our time studying the award winning author and illustrator, Jan Brett! Jan Brett has a unique style, engulfing herself into the history and culture of a book before she writes it. Her illustrations have a unique style with borders around her painted pictures (many times having clues in the borders!) Brett uses paints to create her illustrations.
To celebrate her work her books were put on our book shelf. there were many more we didn’t get to read, these were just a few! Brett has written and illustrated over 50 children's stories!

Gingerbread baby quickly became a class favorite. This brash baby causes mischief wherever he goes! We made our own gingerbread an enjoyed them with lunch one day!

We also read The three snow bears Hannah and I collected boxes and were able to wrap most of them in white paper to make “ice blocks” children made igloos throughout the week, along with other builds of their own creations.

When reading to your child you can ask them where these parts of the book are…
Does this book have a dust cover? (Many do not)
Where are the end pages?
Where is the title page?
What does the author of the book do?
What does the illustrator do?

We had fun at our pajama and pancake party! So much fun I only got one picture!

And as always we made time for PLAY!
